Hi and welcome to "17 Tips to Effortlessly Attract YOUR Ideal Clients in 2017... without having to pick up the phone..."
Attract your ideal clients
Whether you are an online expert strapped for time, small business owner less than wild about to writing about yourself, or an entrepreneur who just can't find the right words for your own products and services, this is the email to read to attract those ideal clients.
Why listen to me?
I’m Carrie and I have helped over 60 clients (71 to be exact) attract their ideal clients. These clients love the results, many are ongoing clients, and all happily give me 5-Star reviews (112+ to date). I am obtaining my Certificate in Copywriting from the American Writers and Artists Association, am a current student of Jeff Walker's PLF 2, Alumna of Brendon Burchard's Expert's Academy and Total Product Blueprint and have a Certificate in Professional Etiquette. Plus, I have a failed business, which is great! But we'll talk about that more in a moment.
This is the first in a series of 3 emails – where you will receive 17 tips for effortlessly attracting your ideal client in 2017... Without having to pick up the phone...!
So how do you attract ideal clients to you and keep from having to cold call people to drum up business?
Well, this email series shows you 17 critical things you need to know to not only increase your profits but be excited about your work and who you spend so much time working for and serving.
Freedom to live the life you want...
When you are able to express exactly what your business is in a way that keeps people coming to you then you can have more free time to spend with your family and friends, traveling, pursuing hobbies or just hangin'.
But it all starts with the right way to attract your ideal client and if you have any trouble coming up with the words to write for your business, you set the stage for attracting the wrong clients or worse, little or no clients. Then you have a business that is either tedious or flailing.
Or maybe you still attract ideal clients and would like to attract more! Well, just like a 1/4" shift in the way a batter swings his bat or a centimeter shift in the way a golfer swings his club can turn a good player into an elite player, there is always room for growth.
See, I am a lot like you...
An entrepreneur who is passionate about serving others and determined to work only with my ideal clients. But I didn’t always know how to. In fact, when I first became a solo-entrepreneur, nearly 4 years ago, I often attracted the worst clients.
I promised to tell you about my failed business.
Well, when I first started out, this is where I was: I tried to make teaching etiquette my career.
After tens of 1000's of dollars and hundreds of hours on certification and course after course of online marketing, course launching and other sales, after blowing through all my savings, a modest inheritance, and depending on my boyfriend to try to keep a sinking ship afloat with the promise of, "one more month...3 more months..." and at the same time, even trying a few other business ventures that flopped, I'd had enough.
All I wanted was to find a way to earn a living doing something I was good at. I aspired to be useful and significant to the world in some way, feeling like I had fallen short for 3 long years, and was still determined to avoid the pain of the dreaded 9-5 J.O.B.
Crazy like a fox
I turned to an e-lance site and made a promise to myself to be “crazy like a fox” as Jeff Walker would say, about ONLY EVER offering services people needed and were willing to pay for. I picked business writing because it was in the top 3 categories of jobs. Plus, I always loved writing anyway and had a natural talent for it, so it was fun (I love to joke about being born with a pencil in my hand).
All of a sudden, I was making money and earning not only 5-Star reviews, but their praises were off the charts and many of them gave me huge tips worth 50% of my jobs and more!
I was hooked and this is how I discovered the answer...
At first it was long hours, little pay and hard work. But not only did I really love it, I found I was really good at it. And my clients’ businesses were being improved because of the words I laboriously wrote for them, so I stayed at it.
It so much harder than I could ever have imagined, with many sleepless nights trying to hit deadlines. Each project and client was different so it was a new learning curve every time and it was exhausting and time consuming.
And if that wasn't enough, my eyes started failing due to early cataracts.
I found myself scrunching my eyes and leaning my head forward to see the screen and all of a sudden I began to get horrible, debilitating headaches. But I still plunged forward and created fabulous content.
The power of "a few good words"
At the same time, I studied copywriting, marketing, e-commerce. I used the power of copy to create my winning bio, query for jobs, respond to requests. All the while I was churning out compelling and convering web content that delighted my clients:
✓ About Me pages
✓ Optin ebooks
✓ Product descriptions
✓ Brochures
✓ Speeches
✓ Profile bio's, (even sold 1 etiquette book: She said yes, a dudes guide to getting laid)
✓ Board game scenes
✓ Novel outlines
Changing tides on a bittersweet sea
I cannot tell you how many times I've said, "Oh, that's what I did wrong. Oh, that's why that email series failed. Oh, that's why my challenge sucked." I've tasted the bittersweet flavor of learning the importance of the right words, in the right sequence, with the right intention.
And now, confident with this vision and success, I hung my hat and put up my own website and FB Page. I began casually posting with those right words, in that right sequence, and with the right intention and guess what! My ideal clients are finding me! They are calling and PM’ing me and at the same time, other entrepreneurs are contacting me to form partnerships. How is all this possible in such a short period of time?
Because when all was said and done, here are a couple secrets I learned.
I learned that I wasn't a bad business woman after all.
I learned that all I ever needed was to be laser focused on offering only what my ideal clients really wanted and were willing, nay, happy, to pay for. (In fact, there's been times I've had people having to wait in line for my services, earnestly pleading for me to get to their project while willing to wait specifically for me.)
Still scared, but able to do it. A HUGE WIN!
I learned that it wasn't asking for the sale that scared me into inaction, despite my deep-seeded belief all along that was the problem... but rather it was asking for it from the wrong audience. Like Michael Port says, "Don't change your act, change your audience."
“I wrote my way out…” Lin-Manuel Miranda in his lyrics
Hamilton, Tony Award winning Broadway Musical
So while at the start of my journey, 4 years ago, I would much rather be drinking tea and teaching how to give a proper handshake and charming introduction, I have to say that finding my own ideal clients and helping them to transform their businesses has actually transformed me.
I’ve met so many amazing and interesting clients. I respect their bold work in the world and find it an honor to join in their causes. It really has been such a blast and I love that now can serve them in such an ever expanding way through the words that I love.
So let’s dig in. In this first email we’re going to focus on:
Attracting your ideal clients.
Did you know that your About Me page is the #2 page looked at on your website? AND it is the page that gives your ideal clients the information to decide whether or not to
DO BUSINESS WITH YOU.
If your client leaves your site after visiting your About Me page, studies show that they will promptly
FORGET about your site and most likely NEVER return. In other words...
Is your About Me Page an engaging invitation for your viewers to get to know you better or your website's PERMANENT exit page...yikes!
Here are 5 critical tips that will serve your About Me page:
1. Use your client's Avatar profile...
to directly influence every element used and every single word you write on your page. We tend to write from our own point of view – this is very common. Your About Me page is where your ideal client will learn how much you care about them and their needs. Buy phrasing your words to suit your client's avatar, using their language, you will create an instant bond with them.
2. It's all about them.
Let your first paragraph be about your clients and their struggles. Word this in a creative way that also shows hope for solution. This is a perfect lead in for introducing your story and how you can help them. You can go further into your bio after.
3. Tell them your WHY.
This includes letting them know what you believe. Think Apple's, "We believe in challenging the status quo, we believe in thinking differently...and we also happen to make great computers. Want one?" Letting your clients know what you believe serves you both. It gives them the chance to opt in or out and it gives you the freedom to work with clients you like best.
4. Use humor and personality, preferences and hobbies...
to connect with your viewers. Little stories, anecdotes, where you hail from, places you've visited, these are all personal ways to connect with your ideal clients. Always to remember to use tact and be appropriate for the audience you want.
5. Include 1000 words in 1 fell swoop...
your mug shot! Include a picture of yourself on your About Me page. This is very important to seal that connection.
Now at this point the big question is...
"But Carrie, shouldn't an About Me page be like the traditional ones we've all been seeing and reading over the past decade? Isn't that the professional, conservative way to do it? Only radical or trendy websites talk about Whys and start with talking about the customer..."
Once Upon a Time...
It's strange to talk about an industry that is less than a quarter of a century old being old enough to change. I get it. But today's consumers, your ideal clients, have wised up. Chances are, they already know you have credentials before even heading to your site. And if that is all they are after when they hit up your About Me page, trust me, they will scroll down to get to them.
Today's consumers are savvy, informed and don't want to be sold. They want a story, which in some ways, shows a return to our ancestriel roots.
Storytelling is the oldest form of passing along information and influence.
It is also the most engaging. So let your About Me page tell not only your story, but that of your ideal clients. After all, who doesn't love a story about themselves?
Here is what is coming up in the next couple videos...
This leads us to our next email where we’re going to cover headlines sizzle, grab attention and sell. Because, to get to your About Me page, your ideal clients have to head there from your Home page and often, some sort of ad, post, or blog and you want the headlines there to POP so that they stay on your site.
Sexy, sizzling headlines sell...
Knowing how to craft sexy, sizzling headlines is important because, frankly, they sell. And when your headlines do the work of selling your products and services to your ideal clients, you get to skip having to pick up that phone to make those dreaded cold calls…
